US directing legend Barry Levinson received Karlovy Vary’s Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the festival’s glitzy closing ceremony on Saturday night. Also in attendance was Hollywood star Robert Pattinson, who was presented with the festival’s President’s Award; the same honour also went to the great Czech actor Jaromír Hanzlík. The Best Film prize went to Radu Jude for “I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians”; Olmo Omerzu was named Best Director for Winter Flies; the Best Documentary prize was won by Vitaly Mansky for Putin’s Witnesses; and the festival’s flagship East of the West competition was won by Elizaveta Stishova with Suleiman Mountain.
The 53 rd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, a non-specialized festival with three competitive categories, took place from June 29th to July 7 th this year.
It was organized by Film Servis Festival Karlovy Vary, a.s., with Jiří Bartoška as president of the festival and Karel Och as an artistic director. The 54 th Karlovy Vary IFF will be held from June 28 th to 6 th July 2019.
On July 7 th 2018, the festival’s juries presented awards for the best films at the closing ceremony of the 53 rd Karlovy Vary IFF.
