OUR COMMITMENT

Since 1957, CINE has honored hundreds of film, television and industrial projects with the prestigious Golden Eagle Award. For some, the Golden Eagle kickstarted new careers; for others, the honor solidified reputations as industry powerhouses. We are aware that in recent years, CINE's luster has not shone as brightly as it once had. Some questioned our process, as we had not adequately communicated how projects were evaluated and honors were determined.

Stepping back to reimagine our mission in the ever-changing media industry, CINE has committed to a new vision: honoring excellence in media making through a new set of criteria focused on storytelling, originality, and meeting the needs of the intended audience.

SMARTER AWARD CYCLES.

In the past, CINE offered both a Spring and Fall cycle open to everyone - students through professionals. Since the needs of each media maker is different, we split the cycles into three distinct rounds, each held once a year:

CINE Golden Eagle Awards for Professional Media

opening October 1, 2014

CINE Golden Eagle Awards for Independent &
Emerging Media

opening January 2, 2015

CINE Golden Eagle Awards for Student & Youth Media

opening May 1, 2015

A BETTER STRUCTURE.

We have adopted a "nominee" structure for all cycles and categories.

Three to five CINE Golden Eagle Finalists will be nominated in each category, with one production per category selected to win the CINE Golden Eagle Award. Juries of distinguished CINE alumni and media makers will select the finalists and Golden Eagle Award recipients.

By reducing the number of overall winners, we will now present all future award-winning productions with a beautiful Golden Eagle Award trophy - free of charge.

STREAMLINED CATEGORIES.

We've analyzed the media landscape to create a category system that is flexible, streamlined and inclusive.

Distribution models are shifting, so all professional media is now grouped by genre-narrative, non-fiction, variety/talk, children's, and advertising/institutional use -  regardless of distribution platform. Whether the production was distributed online, VOD, on TV/cable or in a theater, it has a place.

We're also forming partnerships with film festivals, so emerging and independent filmmakers who receive a jury prize at a partner festival will receive free entry in their corresponding category.

TRANSPARENCY.

CINE is committed to transparency. Our evaluation criteria is published, and the distinguished jurors - those selecting the finalists and award recipients - will be posted.

Our reworked online entry system - in which you can log in, save entry forms in-process and receive automatic deadline reminders - will also allow entrants to see the reviewers' comments. At the conclusion of the awards cycle, independent, emerging and student filmmakers can log in to access their comments.

MORE EVENTS.

Media makers are everywhere! So instead of a single Gala Awards Event, CINE will host CINE Celebrates cocktail receptions in Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, DC.

In addition, we're bringing back our popular 5 on 5 for 5 workshops, to be held in conjunction with the receptions. 5 emerging producers will have 5 minutes each to pitch their ideas to 5 industry executives - in front of a live audience.

CINE Celebrates and 5 on 5 for 5 events will launch in 2015.

THE NEW CINE.ORG.

The new CINE.org has launched with a cleaner look and updated features - and we're not done yet.

By the end of the year, each CINE Golden Eagle Award-winning production from 1963-2014 will have its own page on CINE Films, including embedded media and photos (when available), credits, and links.

And coming in 2015: CINE Connects, an online network for all of our Golden Eagle Award-winning alumni.
