LOREAK (FLOWERS) Spanish bet for the Oscar®

The Spanish Film Academy has chosen Basque-language drama Loreak (Flowers) as its submission for the Oscar for best foreign-language film.

Directed by Jon Garano and Jose Maria Goenaga, Loreak is a film shot in Euskera, the Basque language. The film competed in the Official Selection at the 62nd San Sebastian Festival where it got great critics but no prize. Nominated at the Feroz Awards, its actress, Itziar Aizpuru won the Best Actress award. Loreak was also nominated for two Goya awards.

Flowers has participated in more than 50 Film Festivals over the world and won the Cine Latino Award at the Palm Springs International FilmFestival.

Another Spanish co-production also competing to earn a nomination for an Oscar® is El Clan (The Clan), by Pablo Trapero (Argentina), willing to repeat last year´s success with Relatos Salvajes, also produced by El Deseo, Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar´s company.
